Inflation, Istat: in March the shopping cart down 0.3% – TGCOM

12:19 – Lower prices at the “shopping basket” according to the latest ISTAT figures, which calculates a decrease of 0.3% on an annual basis (was – 0.4% in February) and 0.1% on a monthly basis. It also remains negative the overall index, a decrease of 0.2% per year, while monthly inflation back positive (+ 0.2%). Also weighing on the downward trend is the further decline in energy products.

Services and Food – to reduce the amplitude of the fall in prices, according to ISTAT, helps reverse the trend of transport related services (+ 0.5%, from -0.7% in February) and other slight signs of recovery from certain types of products (unprocessed Food, durable and semi-durable goods, recreational, cultural and personal care). In particular, prices of food (including alcoholic drinks) decreased by 0.1% on a monthly basis and recorded a yoy decline of stable and equal to -0.3%.

Data inflation – net of unprocessed food and energy prices, the ” Core inflation “rose to + 0.6% (from + 0.5% in February), while net only goods energy is brought to + 0.4% (was 0.3% the previous month). The inflation for 2016 amounted to -0.4% (from -0.6% in February).

Prices – Compared with March 2015, prices of goods recorded an accentuation of the decline (-1.0%, from -0.7% in February), while the growth rate of services prices accelerated (+ 0.7% from + 0.5% the previous month ). Prices of high-frequency products purchase increased by 0.1% in quarterly terms and decreased by 1.1% in terms of trend (was -0.8% the previous month).

According to preliminary estimates, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 2% on

a monthly basis while decreasing by 0.3% on an annual basis (-0.2% in February). The economic rise is largely due to the end of the winter sales, of which the Nic inflation index does not take into account.
