Tsipras: “Negotiations with creditors are a step away from the finish” – The Republic

MILAN. “The negotiations between the Greece and creditors are on the final straight. And their successful conclusion will serve to bring serenity in Athens and in the Eurozone. ” Alexis Tsipras is optimistic. Negotiations between Greek negotiators and those of EU, ECB and IMF go on unabated for a week. And the collaboration – admitted even Brussels – is excellent. “No one can deny that there are still some points to be resolved,” he reiterated the prime minister, but “by the weekend” – supports its Minister for Finance Euclid Tsakalotos – the compromise could be signed. The parties have reached an agreement in principle on privatization and pensions, two of the finer points of the agenda. Differences remain on the labor market and the primary surplus but the heads of these hours should help to bring the positions.

The rest of the time is pressing. The loan expires on August 20 by 3.5 billion from the ECB and no new financial aid Athens would risk again the default. The plan that the government is working with former Troika includes a number of reforms in exchange for loans to 86 billion, of which 25 could be released very quickly. Much should be to recapitalize banks in difficulty strong that even today they are losing more than 20% on the Hellenic Stock Exchange. The agreement should be reached by next Monday but because for the final go-ahead also serves the OK of some parliaments including the greek and and the German one.

The real issue is who will then translate into practice agreements signed in the next few hours in the Parthenon. Syriza is still split and the leader of the radical left Panagiotis Lafazanis reiterated that his faction will not vote for the new memorandum classroom. Therefore likely that the new arrivals with the yes vote of the opposition but Tsipras said that this government of national unity is not declared will be short lived. In September, it is expected to Congress of his party and “autumn” – reiterated yesterday the spokesman of the executive – the country could go to the polls to elect a new Parliament.
