A total investment of 750 million Euros for the entire Central and South. This is the remarkable figure that Telecom Italy Spa-take, thanks to a public-private partnership, to make the South a region at the forefront in terms of technology, that is equipped with the ultra-wideband to navigate faster on the Internet (from 30 up to 100 Mbit / s). Seven calls for tenders issued by the Mise through Infratel, won by the phone giant national, among them that for Calabria.
A region with Molise, Lazio, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Sicily, will therefore be the focus of a major project concerning the construction of network infrastructure benefiting from public funding of around 358 million euro for the passive component (excavations and dark fiber), in addition to more 394 million to Telecom (of which 179 for the passive component and 215 for the electronics necessary to provide the service). Among the ten million citizens involved, two million will be from Calabria and one of the most economically depressed in the country will thus be an integral part of a virtuous system that will be connected to the fiber 5,200 seats of government, including more than 400 hospitals and 2 thousand schools. The initiative will make available the optical fiber and the services of Tim in about 760 Italian municipalities through the connection of 24,000 street cabinets. A concrete way to align the South European areas to more developed in terms of penetration of ultra-wideband. The work of laying optical fiber in Calabria, one of the “magnificent seven” regions covered by the intervention is for once in the front row, are well advanced and already between the end of this year and early next they should be nearly completed. The extensive operation conducted by Telecom confirms the company’s commitment to innovation in the area of Milan and in the spread of the services provided to users, contributing in a tangible way to achieve the objectives set out in Agenda Digital. The program launched by Tim for the Centre-South must therefore add up to the national development plan implemented through the implementation of network Ngan (Next Generation Access Network) technology FTTCab (Fibre to the Cabinet) and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) with the goal of reaching 75% of the population by 2017.
