MILAN – Here comes the new controller of Italian public finances. The Parliamentary Budget Office, created according to the rules dictated by the Fiscal compact to oversee the objective of a balanced budget, will take office in the Roman palace of San Macuto by September. The first task for the president and directors Giuseppe Pisauro Goretti Chiara and Alberto Zanardi will be realized, however, until October, when the board of the Office will update the Note Def that will contain the new estimates on the country’s macroeconomic indicators (GDP, debt, deficit ). Although in Italy there are already Audit and Accounts Office, in addition to the appropriate offices of the budget already active in the House and Senate (and quite a few fish to fry have given in recent months to Matteo Renzi), according to European standards it will be just UPB verify the correctness of the accounts and tables and express any comments made in the name of “maximum transparency” in relation to Parliament and citizens, it is stated in the documents of the new institutional body.
