Rome, February 3 (AdnKronos) – Italy back into deflation in January, with the index on consumer prices which is at the lowest level since 1959 when it had fallen to 1.1%, under the weight of the fall of energy products. In January 2015, according to preliminary estimates by Istat, the national index of consumer prices for the entire community ‘, including tobacco, decreased by 0.4% from the previous month and by 0.6% against January 2014 (in December, the variation trend was nothing).

The decline on an annual basis in the general and ‘due in large measure with the increasing trend of falling energy prices, particularly those unregulated (-14.1%, -8 , 0% in December), and the slowdown in the annual growth in prices of services, with particular reference to those of transport services (+ 0.2% from + 2.0% the previous month). Net of unprocessed food and energy goods, ‘core inflation’ remains positive but further slowdown (+ 0.3% from + 0.6% in December); net only in energy drops to + 0.3% (from 0.5% the previous month).

The monthly decline and ‘attributable primarily to the decrease in prices of non-regulated energy (-6.3%) with dramatic declines in fuel, electricity (-2.2%) and transport services (-2.4%), the latter influenced by seasonal factors; to contain part of the decline and ‘the increase in the prices of fresh vegetables (+ 7.1%), also influenced by seasonal factors.
