Risk-of-poverty, severe material deprivation, low work intensity. It is a photograph merciless one taken from the report of Istat on living conditions and income that portrays the rich, richer and the poor poorer. The data are clear. Istat estimated that one Italian in four (28.7%, to be precise, more than 17.4 million people) last year, has led a life of wretched, miserable, on the margins of society. And are the families with children the hardest hit. Increases and, in fact, the share of individuals in households who declare not being able to meet unexpected expenses of 800 euros (from 38,8% to 39.9%) and to have had arrears for mortgage, rent, utility bills or other debts (from 14.3% to 14.9%). Deterioration most marked is observed in particular for individuals in couples with at least three children: the share of those who declare not to be able to meet unexpected expenses of 800 euros goes from 48,1% to 52.8% and that of those who have had arrears for mortgage, rent, utility bills or other debts from 21.7% to 30.4%, contributing to an increase of 3 percentage points of the synthetic indicator of severe material deprivation. But there are also those who choose not to take a holiday, keep the radiators turned off or racking up the bills without paying for it.

in Short, from 2009 to 2014, the income in real terms has declined more for the households belonging to the 20% poorer, widening the distance from the richest households, whose income goes from 4.6 to 4.9 times that of the poorest. In a "nutshell" the richest perceive 37.3% of the equivalent income of the total, while the ruling class in the less affluent racking up just 7.7%.

The average income in Italy is of 29.472 euro, and the good news is that in 2014, finally returned to the stable, stopping a fall, in place since 2009, which has resulted in a total reduction of approximately 12% of the purchasing power. But half of the families does not go beyond the 24.190 euro, while to the South it drops to 20 thousand euros.
