The unemployment rate in October was equal to 11.6%, down 0.1 percentage points on a monthly basis. Detect Istat in provisional data on the employed and the unemployed in October. In detail, the estimate of the unemployed in October decreased (by 1.2% or € -37 thousand), after the 2.2% increase recorded in the previous month. The decrease is attributable to women, while there is a slight increase among men) and is distributed between the different age classes with the exception of the over-fifties. On an annual basis – says Istat – confirms the upward trend in the number of employees (+0.8% on October 2015, amounts to 174 thousand). The growth trend is attributable to employees (+194 thousand, of which +178 thousand permanent) and is manifested both in the male and female, focusing primarily among those over 50 (+376 thousand). In the same period, decrease the inactive (down 2.2% or € -308 thousand) and increase of unemployed people (+1.3%, which is equal to +38 thousand).
In the period August-October – says Istat – the decline in employment is accompanied by the increase of the unemployed (+0,7% to +19 thousand) and the substantial stability of the inactive.
In the month of October, in particular, the estimation of the occupied cala slightly compared to September (by 0.1% or € -30 thousand). The decline is attributable to women in the face of a substantial stability for men and affects all age classes with the exception of the over-fifties. The lower participation in the labour market in October, both in terms of employment for both people in search of work, is associated to the increase of the estimate of the inactive between 15 and 64 years (+0,6%, of +82 thousand). This growth partially offset the sharp drop recorded in September (by 0.8%). The increase affects both the components of gender and classes of age up to 49 years. The rate of inactivity rises to 35.1% in, in increase of 0.2 percentage points.
“The slight decrease in employment compared to the previous month and a similar reduction in the number of unemployed as indicated by data released by Istat indicate a context of substantial stability of the labour market,” said the minister of Labor, Giuliano Poletti -. This short-term change equal to that of similar recorded in other months, does not affect, in fact, the positive trend in the labour market: on an annual basis, employment increase of 174mila units, with an increase of 0.8%. A growth that is attributable to employees: 194mila, of which 178mila are permanent employees’. Compared to February 2014, i.e. from the start of the activities of this government, is, then, a strong increase in employment, in particular permanent, a fact that finds confirmation in the study of the Isfol, from which it appears that, in 2015, the social-welfare contributions for the recruitment indefinitely, and the introduction of contract protections growing have prod uced 714mila new goodwill indefinitely, equal to 96% of the total growth registered by the time limit (+744mila). L'ndagine calculates, in fact, that, without the reform, goodwill indefinitely, would have passed by 929mila in 2014 959mila in 2015 (+30 thousand), while they have been 1.673.000. Therefore, without the reform the impact of the goodwill indefinite total new starts would have declined from 16% to 15%: with the reform, the rate rises to 26%. Of particular importance is the data regarding the young people. The unemployment rate, as well as still too high, it drops to 0.4 percentage points and stands at 36,4%, returning to its lowest since October 2012. In a year dropped 2.9 percentage points and 6.6 percentage points compared to February 2014″.
Meanwhile, there was another decline in October, the unemployment rate in the euro area, to 9.8% from 9.9% in September, with which this entry is back to its lowest value since February 2009. The reports from Eurostat, the statistics agency community, according to which a total of the unemployed in the area are 15 million 908mila, which means 190mila less than in the month of September and 1.12 million less than in October a year ago.
Watching the whole of the Eu 28 unemployment is decreased by a decimal point, to 8.3 percent, which is always the lowest since February 2009.
The highest levels continue to register in Greece, or 23.4%, but on August) and Spain (19,2%). At the opposite, the lower are the rates of the Czech Republic (3.8%) and Germany (4,1%).
