LISSONE (Milan), March 27 (Reuters) – The CEO of Ei Towers Guido Barbieri emphasizes its autonomy from Mediaset in the decision to launch un’Opas Rai Way and hopes that the controlling shareholder may support the birth of a national operator independent of the towers also reducing its equity weight.
“Mediaset has nothing to do with this project,” said Barbieri.
“I hope you will take into consideration, it is desirable scenario, but I have no information about, I have no way to respond,” he answered those who wondered whether it would be possible reduction of control by Mediaset to support the creation of an independent operator of the towers.
Mediaset currently owns 40% of Ei Towers and society integrated with Rai Way would be diluted to 31% with Rai at around 15%.
Barbieri stressed that he had never seen or heard from Silvio Berlusconi, the controlling shareholder of Mediaset.
