LONDON (Reuters) – The new Minister of Finance greek Yanis Varoufakis expects to quickly reach an agreement on the economic situation of Greece.
In an interview with British TV Channel 4, during his visit to London where he met with British counterpart George Osborne, Varoufakis has also expressed confidence that the ECB will do nothing to impede an agreement that would resolve the crisis Greek debt.
“There will be an agreement within a very short (…) that settles the matter of Greece once and for all,” said the minister, adding that Athens needs to give a feeling of stability to reverse the outflow of funds from their banks.
“To create such a sense of stability will be the determination of all of us within the EU, the ECB and all the pieces of this puzzle that is Europe to find a solution soon,” said Varoufakis.
“It takes an inclination very cynical to believe that the central bank, whose objective is to hold together the euro zone, will do anything to jeopardize that,” replied the minister then to a question on the possible opposition of some central banks the euro zone to provide additional support to Greece.
Varoufakis will be tomorrow in Rome to meet Italian Minister Pier Carlo Padoan.
