Unemployment goes back to December, occupied declining – The Republic

Milan – Stops the recovery of the Italian labor market in the last month of 2015: provisional data Istat reported last December show both an increase in the unemployment rate to a decrease in the number of employed although the comparison with 2014 is largely positive. In essence, beyond the changes from zero point that characterize the trend in the short term, it is confirmed the fragility of the overall picture that alternates months largely positive in abrupt braking. Overall, changes in the longer-term trends indicate an improvement of the situation, providing an early indication that the government in 2015 has focused heavily on incentives for stable employment (thanks to the tax relief on the contributions to be paid by the employer) and Jobs Act.

Turning to the numbers, busy (the number of people over 15 who work) in December fell by 21 thousand units compared to November (-0.1%), especially due to the decline in self-employed. Among the assumptions, however, permanent employees jumped by 31 thousand units: possible that companies have accelerated recruitment to center the full tax relief, which have declined significantly since 2016. The annual change was positive: there are 109mila more jobs (+ 0.5%) compared to December 2014. It should be remembered that, then, the relief (which would start in 2015) worked in the opposite direction: companies rimandarono for the decontribution and take this element may affect the comparison between the two months.

unemployment (ie the ratio of people looking for work and the total workforce, date the sum of employed and unemployed) rose slightly to 11.4%, from 11.3% the previous year and after putting together a fall of one percentage point between June and November. To clarify, the Germany locomotive of Europe today updated the record (positive) unemployment, with the rate falling to 6.2% in January, never so low since the reunification. The Germans out of work are 2.73 million, almost 2.9 million Italians. In the eurozone, the rate fell to its lowest for four years and a half to 10.4%. In our case, in December the unemployed were 18 thousand more on a monthly basis: struggling to find work more men, in the range between 25 and 49 years. Again, the yearly trend is more favorable than in December 2014, unemployment was down by 8.1%, which means 254mila people looking for work less. Among the young , the unemployment rate has filed down 0.1 points to 37.9%, again in December. When compared to the population under 25, the share of those who have no work is just under 10%.

In the declining number of inactive , ie people who do not work and are not even looking for a job: the Istat estimate is a decline of 0.1% (19 thousand people), but only thanks to the male.

The Istat data arrive while Minister of Labour, Giuliano Poletti , is at work on the issues of the fight against poverty, the government has launched an operation to 320 Euros per family for 1 million households in greatest difficulty. To be monitored, however, there is also a new frontier of insecurity: the good work, that have experienced rapid growth in recent times. Behind the ‘voucher’ times, however, as many know are hidden real employment relationships, so that escape to the right rules of the game: the same ministry, after alarms INPS, said he wanted to address the problem with a reform of the instrument.
