Vivendi , the main shareholder of Telecom Italy, continues negotiations for a possible acquisition or partnership with Mediaset Premium . Today, the Corriere della Sera confirms that “dialogue continues”, according to sources within Mediaset. For a possible acquisition there is still no agreement on the figures: there is talk of 900 million Euros, but Mediaset seems to have already rejected in the past 1.1 billion Sky.
Easier perhaps the prospect of a lower transaction, combined with Vivendi shares. Besides, the French giant, already owner of Canal Plus (pay TV satellite, cable and IPTV) aims to become the first media company in Europe. Mediaset one leg on the bandwagon of the winning would be a bargain. And then in fact Vivendi is potentially the most fierce competitor to Sky.
Another possibility would be to in a European alliance , playing on several fronts: online, DTT and satellite. In short, the potential for the deal is everything. The only certainty is that Mediaset can not afford to sell off its Premium Unit: 700 million euro disbursed for rights to Champions League (2015-2018) requires caution.
