Istat: 65s to 22% of the population, births at a record low – Il Sole 24 Ore

in 2015, births were 488mila (8 per thousand residents), fifteen thousand less than in 2014. It is so touching a new record low of the Unification of Italy, after that of 2014 (503mila). The data are Istat, in the Report on demographic indicators. It does not back the aging process, absolute and relative. The 65s are 13.4 million, 22% of the total, and were down both the working age population (15-64 years) is that up to 14 years of age. The first drops to 39 million, 64.3% of the total, the second includes 8.3 million children and is 13.7%.

Population down 60.656 mln, most foreign residents
in 2015 the resident population in Italy has shrunk by 139,000 units (-2.3 per thousand). At January 1, 2016, the total population is 60,656,000 residents. Foreigners resident in Italy are 5,054,000 and represent 8.3% of the total population. Compared to a year before there was an increase of 39 thousand units. The Italian citizenship population drops to 55.6 million, achieving a loss of 179mila residents.

More deaths that births
The dead last year were 653mila, 54 thousand more than the previous year (+9, 1%); the mortality rate to 10.7 per thousand, is the highest among those measured by the Second World War onwards. The deaths were concentrated in the older segments of the population (75-95 years). As mentioned births were 488mila (8 per thousand residents). The natural increase (difference between births and deaths) further drops to -165 thousand. 2015 is the fifth consecutive year of fertility reduction, reached 1.35 children per woman.
