Here we go again: Italy more and invest less in the education of its citizens, so to wear the black jersey in the EU for spending on education.
According to Eurostat finds, on public spending countries EU, as already written in our other article, in 2014 Italy has allocated to education only 7.9% of its spending ( down from 8% in 2013) compared with 10.2% European average.
And our country is also the second lowest in the spending on culture with 1.4% of spending in the face of 2.1 % European.
in detail, the annual investment in Italy on education is in line with the average for the ‘ primary education; slightly lower for the secondary while it is much lower for tertiary education or university and post university and Search.
spending as a percentage of GDP in the ‘ tertiary education to 0.8% in the EU average and 0.3% in Italy and if you look at the percentage of the public expenditure, the EU is, on average 1.6% and Italy at 0.7%. In expenditure on tertiary education in our country is increasingly bringing up the rear in the EU, far from German levels (0.9% and 2% of GDP on public expenditure).
But the lack of investment for education and culture, it becomes even more unpleasant when you go to review the national annual percentages for the support of other public sectors. For example, for General Services , area which consists of interest on the debt over the costs for elective organs and many of those for the functioning of public administration , our peninsula stands at 17.4%, against a European average of 13.9%.
And a higher than average percentage is also for the social protection, with 41.8% of expenditure in respect of 40.4% media EU: for this “voice” Italy confirms the peak of spending on old age, with 27.3% (21.4% in the EU) and reversibility. While it remains below the average percentages EU, the share of public expenditure devoted to unemployment, disability and family.
Total public expenditure , in relation to GDP, we are above compared to a united Europe: Italy stood at 51.3%, an increase compared to 2013 and higher compared to the EU average (48.2%). Well for the hotly contested health we spend 7.2% of GDP, a figure in line with the EU.
What does this mean? That the choice of the whole Italian invest little in schools and universities, not only depends on scarcity of funds in government coffers. Because if you look at the total public expenditure, Italy spends more money for social spending than other EU countries.
Now, it is true that we are among the countries where there is greater public coverage for protection: its amount per capita is approximately 8000 Euros per year.
it is also true that we are among the countries where spending is higher to cover the workers left without a job, with layoffs and various allowances, especially for disability, that subtract really considerable figures. That said, however, is not acceptable if you look to the EU for education we invest less than all (notwithstanding the obvious differences, as there are provinces in the northeast and local reality where we have little to envy to others).
While the Education remains in first place in the conferences and debates, but then the priorities of legislators continue to be other.
Let us remember, then , these Eurostat data from march 25, 2016. Ready to take them out, the next time you turn the housekeeper will tell us that “we have reversed gears” and that “Italy has returned to invest
