Taranto, call center in the garage: “Workers in the black-exploited by former colleagues for 2.50 euros per hour” – The Republic

TARANTO - Still a call center in black discovered in a garage in Taranto by the Slc Cgil. Twenty young workers paid 2,50 euros per hour without contributions and insurance. The client was Telecom. Managers, ex-employees of another call centre where they had been exploited with wages very low. So the victims have decided to switch from the side of the executioners.

First in a room, guests in the studio of an accountant, then in a garage without windows, whose only access is from the gate, they opened a new facility by purchasing the software from a specialised company which on its website promises, suggestions in finding the mandate, that is, the client for which to work. The case was reported by the union to the Labour inspectors.

“it’s A new dismal discovery that pushes to resolve quickly the issue – said Andrew Light, a trade unionist of Cgil, which has started a personal crusade for law and order in difficult undergrowth of the call center, only to Taranto and give employment to nearly seven thousand people. “Even more disturbing, he explained, is that, while working for a contract with a giant like Telecom Italia, the operators were forced to work six hours per day in a garage whose only access is a gate on the public road. We are next to these young workers who have the right to see recognized as provided by law and will strive with greater vigour against exploitation in order to eradicate these phenomena that have nothing to do with a civil Country”.

starting In October of last year, the Slc-Cgil has monitored 134 call center, and in 100 cases, are the parties exposed to working conditions unfair, the employees kept for months in trial, or a black, ill-treatment and bullying cases. Only in 13 cases out of 100, however, the employees have subscribed to your complaints with the union, a sign that there is great fear of being branded as ‘those from the complaint easy’ and not to find more work. In recent days, the Lamp and the regional coordinator of the Slc-Cgil, Mario Rocco Rossini met with the regional councillor to the Work Sebastian and Leo to take stock of the situation on the call center. The union has requested the opening of a specific table on the call center ‘from the basement’, they do the dumping, that is, irregular cuts on the cost of the work, on the skin of the collaborators to the project.
