MILAN – And ‘died Vittorio Merloni, the Marche old entrepreneur patron Indesit, now home appliance now acquired by Whirlpool Americans. The entrepreneur was president of Confindustria from 1980 to 1984. Merloni, 83, died early this morning at the hospital emergency room Engles Profiles of Fabriano, his hometown. Merloni had been brought to the hospital for an illness. According to sources close to the family, the entrepreneur was forced to repeated checks in recent days to a deterioration of health conditions. Merloni, a degree in Economics and Commerce in Perugia, was married to Franca Carloni. Four sons: Senator Maria Paola, Andrea, Antonella and Aristide. His career as an entrepreneur began in 1960, in the family: the Merloni, which later became Indesit Company, was born in 1975. The company was presided over by him until 2010 when he left the presidency to his son Andrea, becoming honorary president. Indesit was then sold in 2014 to Whirlpool. The company, listed on the Milan stock exchange since 1987, is a leading European manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances: washing machines, dryers, washer-dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, cookers, hoods ovens and hobs. Vittorio Merloni served as president of Confindustria from 1980 to 1984. In 1984 he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro.
