Consumer prices firm in May. But reduces the city into deflation – Il Sole 24 Ore

Istat confirmed the decrease in consumer prices in May, year on year, a decline of 0.3% compared to the same month of 2015, and a slight increase (+0, 3%) on a monthly basis. Thus it continues the deflationary framework began last February, but there was an improvement compared to April, when the fall in prices on an annualized basis was 0.5%. It also reduces the spread of deflation in the area: 18 large cities still see trend declines in prices, compared to April 21.

As for the so-called “shopping basket”, the prices of food commodities, for the care of the house and of the person increase in May of 0.3% compared to April and recorded no change on an annual basis (-0.2% the previous month). The general fall in prices is due mainly to the rather sharp decline in energy prices (-8.4% compared with May 2015).

tHE MAP OF INFLATION

Looking at the territorial diffusion, between the capitals of regions and autonomous provinces the largest decline affected Milan (-1%). Follow Bari and Potenza (-0.8% for both) and Perugia, Ancona and Palermo (all three -0.7%). In Genoa there is a decrease lower (-0.2%) while there are increases in prices in Bolzano, Naples and Trieste (0.2% for all three) and Venice, Aosta and Trento (0.1 ). In municipalities with more than 150 thousand inhabitants that are not regional capitals, the largest falls affecting, as in April, Reggio Calabria (-0.6%) and Ravenna (-0.5%). Positive growth rates were recorded in Parma (+ 0.3%) and Verona and Reggio Emilia (+ 0.1% for both).

In Modena and Livorno prices do not vary on an annual basis .
