BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany is preparing an emergency plan on the possible exit of Greece from the euro zone, according to the newspaper tabloid Bild citing unnamed sources government.
The paper edition today that the government is considering different scenarios for the elections of January 25 in Greece in case wins the leftist party SYRIZA, which intends to cancel the austerity measures and the greek debt.
According to the newspaper Bild, experts fear the government, if Greece came out of the single currency, an assault to the banks to withdraw deposits in Greek euro and a consequent collapse of the banking system. The European Banking Union should then intervene with a bailout of billions of euro, says the newspaper.
Last Saturday was the Spiegel wrote that the German government regarded the exit of Greece from the euro almost inevitable in case of victory of SYRIZA; but the weekly pointed out that, according to Berlin, the euro zone would have sustained the brunt.
On Sunday, the Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said that Germany wants Greece remains in the euro and that there are no alternative plans.
