– Alitalia has defined the new corporate strategy. There are several goals, some of which are very ambitious, that in the coming years the company intends to achieve together with Etihad Airways that strong of an investment of 560 million euro, currently owns 49% of the company led by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and from ‘CEO Silvano Cassano.
Alitalia which, at the time the agreement with Etihad, boasted a staff of 13,721 employees, a fleet of 134 aircraft with an average age of seven years, and had closed the year of 2013 with 233 million euro of write downs and intends to reach the first useful (46 million net profits) in 2017, after the accumulated losses from 2008 to 2014 (EUR 1.6 billion) and those estimated for 2015 (203 million) and 2016 (44 million).
Promises on the front employment were not made: Alitalia which, according to the Official Airline Guide (a British company analysis and consulting), is not among the top twenty most punctual airlines in the world, first of all want to improve the quality of its services and then (possibly ) think of new hires.
Ambitious goals to be achieved by increasing, for example, the number of destinations (before the cartel with Etihad were 83) in an industry that has seen the number of passengers decline over the recent years.
In 2013, according to the latest ISTAT data, commercial airlines, Italian and foreign, have lost compared to 2012 just over 2.5 million passengers. A decline which have affected many airlines (1.8 million units). The picture worsens further if we consider only the component of Italian carriers (which include Alitalia) as decreased both passengers cheaper flights (-4.3 million) and those of traditional flights (-1, 4 million).
Despite a general worsening of air traffic during 2013 Alitalia was the first carrier in our country for number of passengers, according to reports by ENAC (The National Board for Civil Aviation). From January to December, have been well 23.9 million travelers who have decided to make the company currently led by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, a number higher than that of Ryanair and Easyjet, second and third carrier with 23:12, 3 million passengers.
Yet, still observed the Institute of Statistics, from 2003 to 2013 the proportion of use of Italian carriers from passengers – arriving and departing from airports scattered on our territory – has gradually decreased. A decline (relentless) and that becomes even more pronounced in the period between 2008 and 2013, during which the passengers who used Italian companies have declined, falling from 51% to 34% of the total. In 2003 it was 66%.
