More than 3.6 million no longer seek work – L'Unione Sarda

In Italy more than 3.6 million people no longer seek a job: 14.2% of the workforce. This figure is more than three times that of the average EU-28.

An army of discouraged. People disheartened than the chances of finding a job. In Italy not only unemployment is higher on average than in Europe (in November to 13.4% compared to 11.5% of the Eurozone and 10% in EU 28), an increase of almost a point over the previous year but the gap is huge on “workforce potential” with more than 3.6 million people in the third quarter of 2014 who do not seek employment but are ready to work (14.2% of the total compared to 4, 1% average in the EU). In Europe, the percentage of these people has increased by 0.2 percentage points while in Italy increased by 1.1 points.

The photo comes in a study by Eurostat on the third quarter of 2014 according to which this percentage increased on a trend basis in the EU of 0.2 points and 1.1 points in Italy . The situation is likely to worsen in the last quarter.
