May 1, unions in Pozzallo: solidarity for migrants – News – The Labor Day event in Sicily
Pozzallo – was held in Pozzallo, in the province of Ragusa, the national demonstration of CGIL, CISL and UIL on the occasion of May Day. In the Sicilian village, the frontier of Europe that only in 2014 received more than 25 thousand migrants, gathered about 30 thousand people. The title of the event this year was ‘The solidarity makes the difference’, just to emphasize the character of a May Day devoted to the protection and respect of both workers, but also of those thousands of people who arrive on the continent from north Africa in search of freedom and future. A subject touched by the speech of Anna Maria Furlan, secretary general of Cisl.Sul stage Carmelo Barbagallo, leader of the UIL, who denounced corruption and Susanna Camusso, number one of the CGIL, which has attacked the government on the issue of employment. After completing his work, the three secretaries have reached the seafront of the country, to launch a wreath into the sea, as a tribute to the thousands of immigrants died in the Mediterranean during the crossing from North Africa, while not far away, some groups have organized a moment of interreligious prayer.
