The italians are back in search of work and growing unemployment – The Republic

MILAN - Salt the unemployment in Italy, also because of the growth of italians who are actively looking for work (not succeeding in their intent). According to the data provided by Istat, referring to the month of November, the rate of jobless rose to 11.9%, recording thus an increase of 0.2 percentage points on a monthly basis, and reaching the highest level since a year and a half (this was in June of 2015). The estimate of the unemployed is on the increase (+1,9%, 57 thousand without more work), following a decline of 0.6% recorded in the previous month. “The increase is attributable to both components of the genre and is distributed between the different age-cl asses, with the exception of the over-fifties”, write down the statistics.

it is the latter that are the focus of the data is more positive: if you look to the busy, in fact, in November there was a slight expansion (+0,1%, +19 thousand people) monthly. “The increase in women and people over fifty”, specify the researchers. From the point of view of the nature of labour relations, increase the independent and permanent employees, while descending the fixed-term workers. The employment rate is equal to 57.3%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to October.

If we extend the observation to the quarter September-November, emerge chari the characteristic traits of this phase of the labour market: a substantial stationarity of the busy, exhausted the boost that was seen in the past few months thanks to the tax relief. In the quarter, in fact, “there is a slight decline in employment compared to the previous quarter (by 0.1% or € -21 thousand). The decline affects men, people between 15 and 49 years of age, and employees, while you detect signs of growth for women and over-50″. Numbers that make you say to Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Union of Consumers, that “no reform of the work can work up to that consumption are at stake, and this for the simple reason that until the families do not buy, businesses do not sell and do not need, then, of additional workers”.

notice, as mentioned, the improvement of the attitude of the citizens towards the search for employment: increased labour market participation on the part of the italians (with reflections on the overall deterioration of the rate of the jobless), we see in the decline of the esteem of the inactive between 15 and 64 years: or 0.7%, equal to 93 thousand persons who do not work – nor try – less. “The decline,” says the Institute, “affects both gender and all age classes. The rate of inactivity falls to 34.8 per cent, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points”.

If the framework is all in all positive for the slices of the population, for young records a jump in the unemployment rate: it leads to 39.4%, an increase of 1.8 percentage points compared to the previous month, and touch the highest level since October 2015. The incidence of young unemployed people on the total of boys aged between 15 and 24 years stands at 10.6%, just over one in 10 is unemployed. From the table of statistics (Istat), which unpacks the data for age bands, one sees that employees of over 50 years have increased by 453mila unit between November 2015 and 2016; by contrast, fell by 160 thousand between 35 and 49 years and 88mila between 25 and 34 years old. Numbers that aroused the attention of the minister of Labour, Giuliano Poletti, who in a note speaks of the employment “substantially stable on the floor cyclical”, but “in the framework of the overall concern for the situation of youth employment, for which the decrease in the rate of inactivity among young people, it only corresponds to an increase of unemployment”.

The data on the job have arrived at the level of the Eurozone and the Eu. In the first case, the rate was stable compared to October, a share of 9.8% and a decrease by 10.5% compared to November 2015, marking the lowest level since July 2009. In the improvement of the data expanded to the Union: in November the unemployment rate was 8.3%, down from 8.4% in October and 9% in November 2015. It is in this case the lowest unemployment rate since February 2009: Italy is the only country in the medium-to-large in which unemployment is not declining and is in the company of Estonia, Cyprus, and Denmark is among those in which it grows.
