public accounts, Brussels does not sanction Spain and Portugal – The Messenger

(AGI) – Pass the flexibility on the accounts of Spain and Portugal. The European Commission has decided not to sanction the two EU member states for the infringement of the European rules on public accounts. No penalty, then, but only to return from a surveillance deficit. This was announced by Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis explained that the decision will be formally proposed to the European Council, “now will be up to the ministers to decide.” In times of Euroscepticism, the EU says, “the punitive approach is not the best.” The EU has, in the meantime, new requests for correction of the public finances to the two countries infringement. Portugal asks for the return from the excessive deficit already in 2016, with a deficit declining by 2.5%. For Spain the return below the limit of 3% of GDP is required from 2018.
