Still positive signals from the labor market after encouraging data for March and April (+ 3%), in May the Istat recorded a slowdown in growth in employment (+ 0.1% to 21,000 units compared to the previous month) and a small decrease of the unemployed (-0, 8%, or 24,000 less). Most consistent data on an annual basis: they are 299 thousand (+ 1.3%) new employees of which 248,000 workers (+ 1.7%) with permanent contracts and 81,000 (+3.5) at the end. The unemployment rate touched 11.5% (0.1% APR), while the employment reached 57.1% (+0.1) it is the best result since 2014. Mourners notes instead by unemployment youth that remains stable at 36.9%. Satisfied with the situation is the prime minister, Matteo Renzi and Twitter comments: “With this data we are at 497,000 jobs in the most since February 2014. The Jobs Act is creating stable #avantitutta work.” Does not think so Renato Brunetta, leader of Forza Italy in the House, which in RaiNews24 says: “With the halving of the incentives is emptying and afflosciando the Jobs Act of Renzi. It remains a Flop act. The Istat data are evidence that, unfortunately, the economy is bad. ”

The state accounts

More news coming from the speakers status: in line with the Def forecasts, the demand for the first half of this year stood at 27.7 billion (+5.8 billion compared to the same period of 2015). The Economy Ministry says that only in June 2016 has achieved a surplus of the state sector amounted, on a provisional basis, to about 8.6 billion, compared with a surplus of 12 billion in the same month of 2015. Returning to the estimates preliminary ISTAT, employment growth is attributable to women and covers employees (+11 thousand permanent, +37 thousand completed ones), fall instead independents (-28 thousand). While the employment rate stood at 57.1%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points on the previous month, the unemployment rate, down to 11.5% (-0.1% on April): the decline affecting both men (-1.0%) and women (0.6%). Istat also notes that employment in the March-May period increased by 0.4% (+101 million) compared to the previous three months, with widespread signs of growth on all major components. Another comforting fact: on a trend basis will lower the number of unemployed (-5.6% or -175 thousand) and inactive (-2.2 EUR -305 thousand). After the March drop (-0.3%) and April (-0.8), the estimation of inactive people between 15 and 64 years also falls in May (-0.2% to -27 thousand units). A decrease that only affects women, while there was a stability among men. The inactivity rate drops to 35.3% (-0.1). Looking at the labor market by age, if for young people (15-24 years) the situation is unchanged, the employment rate in May increased among 25-34 year olds (+ 0.7%) and among those over 50 ( +0.1), while it remains frozen in the range 35-49 years. The unemployment rate, however, falls among the 25-34 year olds (0.5%) and among the 35-49enni (-0.2), but increases among those over 50 years (+0.3). After reading the Istat survey, the Labour Minister, Giuliano Poletti, emphasizes that “the data are positive and confirm a trend of employment growth.” More caution by Maurizio Sacconi (Ap), chairman of the Senate Committee Work: “To give a real boost employment must be marked public and contractual action in favor of labor productivity – he explains -. Which means a structural tax reduction side of the variable pay, and other leadership of the company’s contract. ‘
