The great crisis has blown a half million jobs “Artisans and skilled workers the hardest hit”
Insiders call centers, telephone operators, housekeepers and distance sellers are the least satisfied with their profession. One out of four forced to give updates
23/09/2014
From 2008 to 2012 the number of employed decreased by more than 500 thousand units. The most affected are the craftsmen and skilled workers, who lose 555,000 employees, while engaged in unskilled occupations, both production and service, increase of 358 thousand units. You Istat a snapshot of the state of employment in times of crisis. But craftsmen and skilled workers are not the only ones who have paid a high price to the recession: even executives and entrepreneurs suffer, in four years, a sharp decline in employment, with 449,000 units less (equal to -42.6 per cent), of which nearly 100,000 last year alone.
In 2012, the contraction of this large professional group affects almost exclusively entrepreneurs and directors of large (-54 thousand units) and small enterprises (-40 thousand units). The decline in employment in the professions and workers in those businesses contrasts instead the strong growth in unskilled occupations and those engaged in trade and services. In both groups the number of employed increases significantly: engaged in elementary occupations grew by 358,000 units and those devoted to commercial activities and services 372 000.
For technical professions there has been a slowdown in the decline in employment (-0.3 percent between 2011 and 2012), after the sharp fall of 2008-2011, when the loss was equal to over 322,000 units (-7.3 per cent). Women’s employment has declined evident (-12.5 per cent), especially among technical professions (with the loss of 231 000 employed, about twice as often as men); on the contrary, the presence of women grows more than men, especially among the professions of services (+14.1 per cent) and those in low-skilled jobs (+24.9 per cent). In these fields, the female employment increases, respectively, almost four times and about twice that of men.
But the great crisis has not only burned places, but it has also given rise to a gap in innovation. The change in the manner of performing the work was experienced by only a little more than a profession out of four, 26.1% of all the professions, says the study, according to which insiders call centers, telephone operators, housekeepers and distance sellers are the least satisfied regarding their professional
