Squinzi, the last speech as president: “I leave Petanque the task of convincing the unions” – The Messenger

A long warm applause, a standing ovation for ten minutes and so much emotion. It is so close the convention in Parma Confindustria. For Giorgio Squinzi was the last public speech as president. Listen to it sitting in the front row, even Vincenzo Boccia, the leader designated by that May 25 will take over for the next four years.

Perhaps years will be less difficult. The crisis is over, the recovery albeit still weak and below expectations still shows “encouraging” signs. Now the challenge is to adapt to the new competitive environment, the structural changes that the output from this long crisis requires. It will not be easy. Companies will have to make a quantum leap, focusing on more research and innovation. Politics and institutions should continue on the reform path. Squinzi acknowledges the Renzi government to have shown “sensitivity in many measures.” But he asks not to lower the guard and ensure that bureaucracy does not obstruct the work done at the implementation level.

And the union will have to do its part. Completely changing direction. Squinzi confesses: failing to convince the trade unions of the need for a different model industrial relations, with more agile and fast procedures, outside the “liturgies of the last century”, is the only real regret that these four extraordinary years. A Cgil, Cisl and Uil devotes a final appeal to “a new effort and new commitment” in this field. A Boccia explicitly leaves’ the task, not easy “to restart the negotiations.
