MILAN, May 18 (Reuters) – The president of Telecom Italy Giuseppe Recchi believes that a joint venture between 3 and Wind Italy in mobile telephony is expected by the markets and can be useful to promote investment in the network.
“It ‘s one thing that markets expect,” said Recchi on the sidelines of an event in Milan talking about the possible merger.
“It is still a market with plenty of competition,” he said, adding however that any aggregation “also increases investments”.
“Today we need large companies that are able to have the resources to make the investments required for the network we need.”
Last week, Vimpelcom has announced it is in talks for an equal joint venture between its subsidiary, Wind and 3 Italy’s Hutchison Whampoa.
