(AGI) – The expense of European consumers suffered a sharp slowdown after the recent increases. According to Eurostat, retail sales in March fell by 0.5% after + 0.3% unrevised from the previous month. The figure is worse than the expectations of analysts who were for a smaller decline (-0.1%). On an annual basis sales showed an increase of 2.1% from 2.7% the previous year, resulting in this case below the consensus was for + 2.5%. In the EU-28, however, retail sales registered a decrease of 0.7% on a monthly basis (unchanged in February) while on an annual basis reported a + 2.4% (+ 3.2% the month previous).
