STEP 1-Whirlpool, negotiation tight to ward closure … – Reuters Italy

ROME, April 27 (Reuters) – The government has initiated mediation between Whirlpool and unions in an attempt to avoid the closure of the Carinaro (Caserta) and filing of the 1350 business plan presented by US giant home appliance which he bought from the family Merloni Indesit.

At the table, convened this morning at the Ministry of Economic Development, the Minister Federica Guidi said that the government “is will actively to change the plan, “according to union sources.

A ministry statement confirmed that Guidi has proposed a “confrontation without ruling on the industrial Whirlpool, including the establishment of Carinaro”.

At the end of the meeting, which was attended also the CEO of Whirlpool David Castiglioni and the presidents of the Campania and Marche concerned restructuring, was set a tight schedule of the meetings April 29, then 5 and 8 May.

Rocco Palombella , secretary general of Uilm, has “accepted the invitation of the Minister to undertake a comparison without preconditions”, but said he was unavailable “to make agreements providing closures and layoffs.”

The plan includes 1,350 redundancies (from the previous 950) and the closure of the Carinaro, near Caserta, which employs over 800 people ; the closure of the research center of Finland in the Piedmont and the transfer of 600 employees of Albacina (Marche), which will be closed in the near Melano.

Despite the cuts, the company is committed to bring back to Italy some foreign productions and to invest 500 million.

The union wants it to be honored the commitment made by Indesit, before being acquired by the Americans, not to lay in unilaterally until 2018. More …
