ROME – After the jubilant trumpeted the premier Matteo Renzi and Minister Giuliano Poletti on the beneficial effects of the Jobs Act for employment (he led, earlier this year, 70,000 jobs in more) to Istat March freeze once again the Government.
Unemployment – Sale still the unemployment rate after the declines in December and January and a slight increase in February, the figure calculated by ISTAT has grown by 0.2 percentage points more, reaching 13.0%. This is the highest level since 13.2% in November last year. In the twelve months the number of unemployed increased by 4.4% (+138 million) and the unemployment rate by 0.5 points. Compared to the previous quarter, in January-March 2015 were down both the employment rate (-0.1 percentage points) and the unemployment rate (-0.2 points), compared with a growth rate of inactivity (+0.2 points). Always on a quarterly basis, the unemployment decreases for women (-0.3 points). Inactivity is growing for both components of gender, with the inactivity rate rising for men by 0.2 percentage points and for women by 0.3 percentage points.
Unemployment youth – The unemployment rate for aged 15-24, that is, the share of unemployed youth in the total of the active (employed and unemployed) in March amounted to 43.1%, up 0.3 percentage points the previous month. This is the highest growth since August. In trend terms, compared to March 2014, we observe a decrease in the number of young people in employment (-5.5% to -50 thousand) and growth in the number of inactive (+ 1.5% or +66 million ).
Occupied – In March, registering -59 000 employees, down by 0.3% from the previous month, returning to the level of last April. Compared with March 2014, employment is down by 0.3% (-70 thousand) and the employment rate by 0.1 points. The number of employed decreases compared to February both for the male component (-0.4%) and, to a lesser extent, for females (-0.1%). The male employment rate is 64.5%, decreased by 0.2 percentage points, while that of women, 46.7%, remains the same.
