CHRISTMAS IN TROUBLED TIMES: GIFTS LOW COST AND TECHNOLOGY. The survey of Confcommercio: spend 171 euro upside smartphones and tablets
For Christmas gifts Italians will reduce expenses, but oriented more towards the technology. According to the survey Confcommercio, three out of five Italians will reduce the budget: the average cost will be 171 euro, down by over 40% compared to 2009. In increase online purchases (+ 7.9% on 2013) and those dismartphone and tablets.
Three out of five consumers say they intend to spend less than last year for Christmas gifts. 95.1% of consumers will allocate a budget of no more than 300 euro (it was less than 70% in 2009). In particular, increasing those who matter to spend less than 100 € (are 33.2% in 2014 against 31.5% last year) and diminish those that spend between 100 and 300 € (are 61.9% compared to 63.5% in 2013). Only 4.9% are willing to spend more than 300 euro.
Those who, more than others, they decided to cut the budget for Christmas shopping, are mainly the very young (under 24) , the age group between 45 and 54 years old and families, especially residents in the South and in large metropolitan areas. The average expenditure per person for Christmas gifts amounted to 171 euro, substantially in line with the value of last year but 40.7% less than in 2009 (compared to about 289 euro). This estimate returns the severity of the crisis in incomes and consumption also in the metric of purchases of Christmas gifts.
